Scallop-edged leaves grow in opposite pairs, each deeply veined and olive with pale edges, and a second leafy stem branches off low to the left. The side stem carries a full set of leaves of its own and looks to be heading somewhere.
Along the foot of the packet: SOW SHALLOW, STAND BACK, and under it, one plant · many plants · all cheerful.
For the gardener whose one lemon balm plant became many plants, with the best of intentions.
